Next Gen is here!
FAA GLOBE’s next generation of leaders have arrived and are now blazing a new path to equality within the FAA. Recruiting the next generation has been my highest priority as Chairperson for FAA GLOBE. New leaders are needed to ensure that civil rights gains, made over the past 15 years, are not eroded. Fighting for workplace equality is essential for all employees to be valued.
It has been my honor and pleasure to have served the GLBT FAA community these past 15 years and now it is time for me to fade to the back ground. Together, we changed the FAA by simply stepping forward and demanding that all workers be treated equitably. We all share in this accomplishment, from the people who led the movement to the persons that simply came out at work. We have changed perceptions one person at a time and have gain wide spread tolerance and even acceptance amongst our non-gay coworkers.
My only regret is that I didn’t convince FAA management to extend equality to our transgender sisters and brothers. This act requires the courage which seems to be lacking in Washington politics. Dignity and respect is what all employees seek and by not acknowledging transgender rights, the FAA contributes to repression. I was unable to convince the FAA to do the right thing and now I challenge the new GLOBE leadership to finish the job.
Be proud my fellow gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual coworkers, never let anyone take away your dignity and respect.
Thank you for letting me serve.
With great pride,
Jimmy Ray Garrett
